Eco Expo Central Asia

Since January 2026, an advertising campaign for Eco Expo Central Asia has been airing on the global TV channel BBC News, and this timing is meaningful in every sense.

The campaign launched at the very beginning of the year, when the life cycle of any communication message is at its longest and most powerful. It also coincided with the World Economic Forum in Davos, a moment when global political and business leaders define priorities for the future and when messages in the information space receive maximum attention and impact.

The exhibition itself will open on 31 May in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. At the same time, Samarkand will host the Eighth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) — a milestone event for the organisation.

This Assembly takes place at a decisive moment: only four years remain before the 2030 targets set by the international community must be achieved. It is precisely for this reason that governments, the private sector, and civil society must be united around the shared principle of “nature, climate, pollution” and initiate large-scale, inclusive actions that our planet urgently requires. This was clearly articulated by GEF CEO and Chairperson Carlos Manuel Rodríguez.

In this context, the Assembly will become an important step toward consolidating efforts aimed at strengthening resilience, protecting nature, attracting investment, and expanding international knowledge exchange.

On a personal note, I am particularly pleased that Uzbekistan has chosen BBC News as its global communication platform for such a responsible and forward-looking agenda. BBC News is distinguished not only by the scale of its global reach, but also by the influence of its audience — a crucial factor when discussing issues such as climate change, especially at a time when some world leaders attempt to sideline these topics in favour of short-term political considerations.

I sincerely wish all participants of both Eco Expo Central Asia and the GEF Assembly a successful and productive programme. I have no doubt that Samarkand will once again provide outstanding conditions for meaningful and effective work — and will pleasantly surprise those who have not yet discovered this true gem of Central Asia. Those who have already been there will surely find something new.

I look forward to meeting you in Samarkand at Eco Expo Central Asia, and I wholeheartedly wish all Assembly participants productive work for the benefit of our planet.
